Wilma Mills Hammerschmid passed away peacefully at home in Salt Lake City, Utah early the morning of November 5, 2020. She was born June 18, 1924 in Victor, Utah to David James Mills and Bertha Pearl (Wells) Mills. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She worked at the parachute factory in Manti, Utah during World War II. She later met the love of her life, Willis Hammerschmid whom she married on February 18, 1944 after he returned home from serving in the Marines. They settled in the Uinta Basin where they raised two sons, Charles David and Carl Dee.
In the early sixties they moved to Price, Utah where Willis worked for US Steel and together they operated a ranch in Nine Mile Canyon. As retirement years approached they purchased a home in Salt Lake City, Utah to be close to their children and grandchildren.
Wilma is preceded in death by her husband who passed away in 2006 after 62 years of marriage.
Wilma was a great mother and wife that was devoted to her family.
She was a hard worker who took great pride in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a lover of old country music and would say "I would rather dance than eat", but would always have room for a garden fresh tomato and was heard saying on multiple occasions "I can always eat a tomato".
She loved to crochet, knit and spend time with her family. She wished that she could spend more time at the cabin and would relish the time that was spent there together with her children and grandchildren. She was funny without even trying and had the biggest heart. She was accepting of all and could make anyone who came into her presence feel like family. She was a real sweetheart and was adored and loved by her sons and all who met her.
Wilma is survived by her children: Charles and Carl (Debbie). Grandchildren Nathan Webster, Ethan Webster, Jennifer Hammerschmid, Kymberly (Dylan) Katsilas, Gentry (Kayleigh) Hammerschmid. Great-Grandchild: Margaret "Maggie" Refi. Also survived by sister Deloris Marvidikis, sister-in-law Leona Nesi and numerous nieces and nephews.
