Wilma Irene (Jones) Gregersen
CLAWSON– After progressing through the stages of dementia over the past 7 years, our beloved wife and mother, Wilma Irene (Jones) Gregersen left this earth to be with our Heavenly Father on July 16, 2024. Her body could no longer function and she passed peacefully with family members nearby. She is home and free from the pain and difficulties that she experienced.
Wilma was born October 7, 1939, to Que and Uenna Jones in Huntington, Utah. She was number five of 13 children (9 girls and 4 boys) and grew up in a close, supportive family. She developed a love of music from her father, which she passed on to her own children. She played the accordion as a teenager and taught herself how to play piano and guitar and it was so special when she would sing songs to her children at bedtime. She had a beautiful voice and loved singing in the choir for many years. She continued “singing,” even when she lost the ability to speak, up to the last few weeks of her life.
As a young woman, Wilma met and fell in love with Larry E. Gregersen and they were married and sealed in the Manti temple June 19, 1956. They remained sweethearts for the entirety of their 68 years together. They spent the first 21 years of their marriage serving our country with Larry in the Air Force and truly enjoyed traveling around the world, including Turkey, Hawaii, Alaska, Texas, California, and Utah. Wilma was incredibly brave with an inner strength that carried her through some challenging times. As a 21 year old, she flew by herself from Istanbul to Ankara, Turkey, on a Turkish airline to deliver her first child alone in a Turkish hospital. Larry was unable to accompany her as he had military duties that didn’t allow him to leave with her. She delivered her baby and carried on as if it was an everyday occurrence. They continued their travels after retirement for several years and eventually settled in the house Larry built in Clawson. With each move, Wilma mastered the art of being able to create a home that resonated with joy and love for her family no matter the location or conditions. She was a deeply devoted partner and mother, with an everlasting faith in the knowledge of our salvation through our Lord and Savior.
Wilma is survived by her husband, Larry E. Gregersen and their six children, Kaan (Shawna) Gregersen, Shaun (Angie) Gregersen, Malie (Steve) Visser, Kresta (Rick) Garrett, Reyhaun Gregersen, and Melic Gregersen, as well as 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
