PRICE- Veda Merline Jones passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024, in Price, Utah.
She was born March 10, 1940, in Elmo, Utah to Charles Franklin and Zillah Faye Ericson Jones.
Veda graduated from North Emery High School May 28, 1958, and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on June 30, 1958, which she retired from a distinguished career on August 1, 1980, as a Master Sergeant (E-7). She attended Weber State College, graduating in 1984 with degrees in Business Management, Marketing and Office Administration. She was hired by Utah Department of Workforce Service as a Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist retiring in January 2000.
Some of Veda’s hobbies included traveling, fishing, painting and gardening. She served as Utah Director for “A Special Wish” Program from 1986-1996, where she helped grant many wishes to Utah children with life threatening illnesses.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in various callings including Visiting Teacher, Primary School Teacher, Young Women’s, Relief Society and was endowed in the St. George Temple in March of 1983. She was a life member of Disabled American Veterans where she held many positions from Chaplain to Utah State Department Commander from 1996-1997. She was involved in many veterans’ issues including Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Retired Enlisted Association, AMVETS, Women in the Air Force Association, Utah State Coordinator for Women Veterans from 1990-2007 and a member of the Governor’s Veterans Advisory Council from 1993-1998.
She is survived by her sister, Kathryn Faye Mathie, West Valley City, Utah; very special friends, Tim and Linda Turner; many nieces, nephews, and special friends that assisted her during her final journey on earth.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles Eugene (Barbara) Jones, Frederick Maurice (Betty) Jones; sister, LaRae Majors; brother-in-law, LaMar Mathie.
Funeral service, Monday, December 30, 2024, 2:00 p.m., Price Sixth Ward (303 West 500 South) in Price where the family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 p.m. Interment, Elmo Town Cemetery with full Military Honors. Arrangements are in the trusted care of Fausett Mortuaries where family and friends are always welcome and may share memories online at www.fausettmortuary.com.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to your Ward Missionary Fund or Chapter #16 Disabled American Veterans, Price, Utah.
