Toshiko Gregersen
Toshiko Ishiwata Gregersen, age 88, passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Parkdale Health & Rehab Care Center, Price, Utah. She was born on November 3, 1935 to Katsuo & Haya Ishiwata in Hase Kamakura, Japan.
Some of Toshiko’s favorite memories growing up included school, her 4 siblings, and playing volleyball on the beach with friends. Shortly after graduating high school, Toshiko met her sweetheart of 53 years, Melvin, while he was serving his country in Japan. After enduring many obstacles and extended stays, Melvin and Toshiko were finally married at the U.S. Embassy, in Tokyo, Japan on May 22, 1957. They were stationed in New Mexico, Colorado and Iowa. During this time, Toshiko successfully completed a class to become a U.S. citizen. In 1974, Melvin was thrilled to move his family to Emery County, where he and Toshiko raised their 4 children.
Toshiko welcomed any opportunity to spend time with returned missionaries, exchange students, or friends who had been to Japan, especially if they could speak Japanese. They were often treated to a traditional Japanese meal. Toshiko was extremely proud to have retired with 20 years in the food service industry, as a "Lunch Lady", for the Emery County School District, where she loved teasing and giving all the students a hard time. In her off time, she enjoyed working in her yard, sewing, scrapbooking and ANY excuse to shop.
Toshiko is survived by her children, Niomi (Cory) McFarlane, Layne (Marcie) Gregersen, Rinji (Vicki) Gregersen, and Koji (Jennifer) Gregersen; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren - with 2 on the way; brother and sister in laws, Larry (Wilma) Gregersen and Phyllis Cline.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her parents, Katsuo & Haya Ishiwata; In laws, Ever & Blye Gregersen, Russell & Sara Gregersen, Fred & Xuan Gregersen, and Ben Cline.
Toshiko will be laid to rest next to her husband, Melvin, in the Castle Dale City Cemetery, following a graveside service. Services are in the trusted care of Fausett Mortuaries where friends are always welcome to share memories online at www.fausettmortuary.com.
