Roland Durfee

September 13, 1940 — October 2, 2014

Roland F Durfee Elmo, UT: Roland F. Durfee, age 74, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014 at his home. He was born on Sept 13, 1940 to Edmond Franklyn Durfee and Nancy May Pectol as the youngest of 5 girls and 3 boys in the small town of American Fork Utah. Roland was the last one in his family to come to earth and the last one to go back home. His parents passed when he was a young teenager. They surely welcomed him home with a big celebration. He was introduced to Carren Shakespear who shortly thereafter became his lifetime companion of almost 53 years. They were married in the St, George Temple on June 4, 1960. Together they were blessed with 5 kids: Kolene Durfee, Juanita McCandless, Terri Ann Johnson, Robert Alan Durfee, and Roland Dean Durfee. Carren departed from this life on May 14, 2012. Roland served his country in the Air Force. He claimed to be a "Jack of all trades". There was nothing he couldn't do. There were only a few things he really didn't like to do, like plumbing, but he could do it. He was an amazing electrician for over 30 years, which is what he preferred to do. Roland was a perfectionist. If he was going to do something he was going to do it perfectly. He loved to serve, and he did it well. The calling that was his all time favorite was that of a temple worker at the Manti Temple, with a close second of working with the full time missionaries. One of his favorite activities was the Family New Year's Eve parties which is where we would serve stack-up enchiladas, everyone would play games, and then welcome in the New Year. After Carren's passing, Roland met Rebecca Banks and decided that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. They were married on December 18, 2013. Even though they had a short time together, Rebecca really made Roland very happy. Roland leaves behind his wife, Rebecca, 5 children, 21 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren, with 2 on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carren, and siblings: Nancy Frances Colledge, Alice Rogers, Idonna Keele, Verna Elmer, Edmond Franklin Durfee, Frederick Dee Durfee, and Dorothy Tomer. Roland will be greatly missed by all of those who loved him. He loved 100%, not knowing any other way to love. He was an amazing example of selfless love and dedication. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elmo LDS Ward Chapel, 199 East Main, Elmo, UT. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be in the Elmo Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
