Robert Thompson
FERRON- Robert Cox Thompson, affectionately known as Tobar, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024 at the age of 84 in his home surrounded by his loved ones in Ferron, Utah.
Born on May 22, 1940, in Ferron, Utah, to Elden and Theresa Venetta Cox Thompson. Robert led a life rich in passion, adventure, and love for his family.
Robert's early life was marked by a deep connection to his roots and a fierce enthusiasm for the outdoors. His talents and interests extended beyond the ordinary; he was a skilled mechanic, a talented sand drag racer, and a dedicated coal miner with a remarkable 36-year career. His love for racing was evident in his sand drag racing achievements, where his jeep "Snoopy" earned him multiple records across the country. At 13 years old Robert fixed the whole town’s bikes, cars, and anything that needed repair; earning him the nickname ‘Tobar’ from an old, aged TV show about a Mr. Fix-it Scientist named ‘Captain Tobar’, in which he fixed anything and everything.
In 1961, Robert married Ray Harolene Allred, and together they welcomed three sons: Robert Lee, Shayne Eldon, and Kasey K. After their marriage ended in divorce, Robert found love again with Shelly Gene Fisher, whom he married in 2002.
Robert's passions were as diverse as they were intense. Whether he was hunting, fishing, camping, or working on a new mechanical project, he approached everything with enthusiasm and skill. His ability to fix anything that came his way was legendary among friends and family alike.
Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Shelly Gene Thompson; his sons, Shayne Thompson (Wendy) and Kasey Thompson (Diana Thompson); his stepdaughter, Heather Fisher. He will be fondly remembered by his 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elden and Theresa Cox; his brothers, Marion E, Glen, Neil; and his sisters, Marcia, Romona, and Verd. He was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Robert Lee.
Robert's legacy is one of dedication, adventure, and love. His impact on those around him will be remembered and cherished.
