Richard Louis Fielder
CASTLE DALE - Richard Louis Fielder, age 80, passed away January 17, 2010. Richard was born June 9, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Emily Cardnell. He grew up in Boys Town, Nebraska, Father Flanagan's Home for boys. There he excelled in football and baseball. After graduating in 1947, he moved to Fresno, California area to play professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict, and continued serving while working as an aircraft mechanic and playing football.
Richard married Zora Johansen February 8, 1951, in Alameda, California. They moved to Castle Dale to raise their family. He worked 10 years for the U.S. Forest Service. He then became a proud Union man of Local 295 and worked at the Power Plants, where he acted as a Labor Steward for 23 years. Richard's hobbies included horses, going out on the desert, fishing, and sports. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, the St. Louis Cardinals, and Emery High School football and baseball teams. He enjoyed coaching and watching his sons and grandchildren play sports. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
Richard is survived by his wife, Zora; children, Joe (Sheila) Fielder of Castle Dale, Jim (Dixie) Fielder of Orangeville, Susan Austin of Castle Dale, David (Vicki) Fielder, of Stansbury Park, Utah, Jack (Maxine) Fielder of Castle Dale, and Dale (Linda) Fielder of Castle Dale; 21 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
There will be a viewing at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale (720 North Center Street) on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. prior to the services. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Fausett Mortuary. Interment will be in the Castle Dale City Cemetery. Services are in care of Fausett Mortuary.
