Phyllis Ward Hansen
Phyllis Ward Hansen passed tranquilly away on the afternoon of December 29, 2015 in Salt Lake City. During the holiday season, she was able to say good-bye while spending time with family and friends. Phyllis was born March 30, 1921 in Richfield, Utah to Lydia Jensen and Benjamin Ward. She moved with her family to Price, Utah when she was six and graduated from Carbon High School in 1939. Phyllis grew up with her sister, Wardella and brother, Ben Jr. In 1942, Phyllis married Leonard Dixon, who died in 1943 in WWII. After the end of the war, Phyllis married Kenneth F. Hansen, a veteran of WWII and the Korean War, and they had two daughters, Kathy Clark (Salt Lake City) and Kara Hansen-Suchy (Phoenix). Kenneth's career with the Federal Government permitted the family to live in many places where she made lifelong friends in each city.
Phyllis was a wonderful and generous grandmother to five grandchildren, Christopher Clark, Nathan Clark, Peter Clark (Katie), Denae Suchy and Keath Suchy. These grandchildren gave her six precious great-grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, sister, Wardella Edwards, (LaMar), brother, Ben Jr., (Alice) and grandson, Christopher Clark.
Our mother was an avid reader but also enjoyed golfing, gardening, swimming, playing bridge, volunteering and participating in Beta Sigma Phi activities. She spent the last 13 years living at Highland Cove Retirement Center. She loved the friends she made and the activities she experienced there. The last decade presented our mother with several health challenges, which she always effectively worked hard to regain the active life style she relished. The last health challenge proved to be her last; however she accepted her fate with the courage and dignity that accompanied her classic style.
Service will be at Fausett Mortuary, (680 E. 100 S., Price Utah) Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 10:30am. Interment will follow at the Price City Cemetery entrusted to the care of Fausett Mortuary.
