Pete Jones

November 17, 1936 — March 12, 2015

Listen to Service Peter (Pete) C. Jones, 78, passed away March 12, 2015 in St. George, UT. He was born November 17, 1936 in Sunnyside, UT to Pier Carlyle Jones & Martha Ruby McMahon. He later moved to Orangeville where he was raised by his dad Carlyle and Dortha Jewkes Jones. Pete graduated from South Emery High School in 1955. He was the first Scout to receive the Duty to God Award in Emery County. He married his high school sweetheart, Kathryn LaRee Kirby on Sept. 1, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. Pete served in the armed forces and was stationed in Germany. While there, Kathryn joined him and they were able to travel to Europe together. Their family was blessed by the addition of three children through adoption. Pete was a lifelong learner, studying the gospel, health and nutritional books and everything in between. While living in California, he gained his pipefitter and welding journeyman papers. Later, after moving to Emery County he also gained his electrical foreman papers. He enjoyed his many callings in the church, especially serving two missions with Kathryn at the Humanitarian Center in Salt Lake City. Pete enjoyed music and was very musically inclined. Entertaining people and playing guitars in a band with his brothers Pat and Ronnie was always the best of times. Boating, water skiing, four-wheeling, camping and fishing were favorite hobbies he enjoyed. Tinkering in his garage, working in the yard and gardening, while competing for the first pea pod of the season, was great fun. He was very spoiled as he had the best cook ever! He was very loved by his family and friends and all who came in contact with him. Pete was always lending a helping hand to those in need. He truly was a very generous and loving person. His generosity and kindness will always be remembered by all who knew him. To know him was to love him. He is survived by his wife Kathryn Jones of Castle Dale, UT, daughter Judy Tuttle, sons Paul Jones (Marjie), Randy Jones (Franchesca), all of St. George, UT; brothers Ronald Jones (Sue), Kelly Jones (Janet), Pat Jones (Laurie) and sister Peggy Jones; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sister Lyla Steinhilber (Theo) and his grandson Kaden James Jones. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Castle Dale Stake Center, with a viewing at the Fausett Mortuary Monday, March 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and from 9:30 to 10:30 am, prior to funeral services. Interment will follow in the Orangeville City Cemetery with military honors. Services are entrusted to Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale.
