Paula Hughes Madsen
Altamont/Green River: Our beloved wife, daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend Paula Lee Hughes Madsen, passed away on Thursday 20 November, 2014 in Salt Lake City after a brief but valiant battle with cancer.
Paula was born 23 April, 1969 in American Fork, Utah. Her first homes were in Alpine, Utah and Panaca, Nevada; then moving with her family to Green River, Utah.
Paula is the daughter of Arthur Lavell Hughes and Sharyn Burgess Hughes. She graduated from Green River High School where she excelled in athletics, academics, music, drama, and leadership. Paula attended SUU for 1 year on a track scholarship. She spent 2 years in Boston, MA. as a live-in nanny and made some life-long friends there. She also spent several years in Green River managing the Robber's Roost Motel for her parents.
On 30 December, 2000 she married her eternal sweetheart Jay Dee Madsen, also of Green River. They made their first home in Green River, Utah and later moving to Altamont, Utah where they currently reside.
Paula was very creative and owned her own successful business Petals Pens and Pots. Paula was a very positive, thoughtful, kind, and caring individual with a big heart. She was always ready and willing to help and care for others. She loved all animals, but especially cats. She also loved fishing and gardening and spending time with Jay. Paula spent the last 2 months of her life living with Coralie and Clint Seright, and their 4 children who provided very tender loving care.
Paula is survived by her husband Jay Dee Madsen, parents Arthur And Sharyn Hughes, and siblings Suzette (Wayne) Roberts, Thomas (Shlisa ) Hughes, John (Allisha) Hughes, and Coralie (Clint) Seright, Step children Lacy Madsen, Alexi Madsen, and Dee Jay Madsen, 20 nieces and nephews, 3 grandchildren, and 4 cats.
Funeral services will be held Friday 28 November, 2014 at the Green River LDS church, 101 N. Clark. There will be a viewing from 10 am until 11:30 am, with the funeral starting at 12 pm (noon).
Burial will be Monday 1 December, 2014 in the Alpine City Cemetery, 400 Grove Drive, Alpine, Utah with a short graveside service starting at 12 pm. (noon)
The family would like to thank the Huntsman Cancer Institute, Dr. John Ward and his staff, the ICU and the medical staff, for the tender loving care they gave to Paula during her short illness, and the love and courtesy they extended to her family.
