Merrill Peterson

Merrill Richard Peterson "Pete" 1925~2010 Our father Merrill Richard Peterson passed away after a valiant battle with cancer at home surrounded by his family, March 15, 2010. He was born in Salt Lake City, UT October 15, 1925 He was the oldest child of Dorthea Marguerite Larsen and Merrill H. Peterson. He graduated from South High School in SLC, UT where he met his eternal sweetheart Donna Cherrel Jacobsen. They were married February 13, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised 4 children, Merrill Richard Jr. (Debora), Connie Linn Felice (Michael), Kathleen Ann Ursenbach (Brent) and Karen Marie Jacobson (John). Dad's served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corp. He spent his professional life working for the JCPenney Company He started in the stock room and worked his way up to the company headquarters in New York City. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings, including, in his later years, Bishop. He believed strongly in the Boy Scout Program and spent many hours working and camping with the scouts. He had a great love for woodworking; He quietly helped others and dearly loved his family. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, children, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother, Reed Peterson, and his sister, Marilyn Peterson Ebert. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 19, 2010, 1:00 pm at the Millsite Ward, 35 West 200, Ferron, Utah. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6-8 pm at Fausett Mortuary, 720 North Center Street, Castle Dale, UT and Friday from 11:30-12:30 prior to the service at the church. Interment, Ferron City Cemetery. Friends and family may share memories and sign the guestbook at www.fausettmortuary.com. We wish to thank all the Doctors, Nurses and Health Caregivers for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the LDS Church Humanitarian Fund.
