Lawrence Young

March 28, 1928 — April 24, 2012

Lawrence Jefferson Young Jr. Price-Lawrence Jefferson Young Jr. age 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 24, 2012 in Price, Utah. Lawrence was born on March 28, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lawrence Jefferson Young Sr and Mary Hazel Murray. He married his first wife Lydia DeHerrera in 1952 and together they had 11 children: Ronnie, Larry, Kenny, Mary Ann, Ernie, Hazel, Jimmy, Liz, Robin, Bobby and Alan. Tragically, Alan and Bobby died before their father. In 1971 Lawrence married his second wife Dorothy Lloyd and brought 6 more children into the family: Linda, Allen, Gerald, Janet, Patsy and Mary Ann. 17 children in all. Add to this 53 grandchildren, and 88 great-grandchildren. Lawrence was a High Priest in the LDS Church and he and Dorothy were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple in 1991. He was a faithful and active member and a great home teacher. He joined the Army and served during the Korean Conflict. His life work was being a "baker" at 14 years old, first in Salt Lake City, Denver and then in Price, Roosevelt and Evanston. Many of us remember him baking at the Towne Bakery in Price. Later he owned Larry's Bakery in Helper. He was noted for his french bread and hard rolls and the flowers he made out of frosting. Lawrence was an avid fisherman and his prize was a near record "northern pike" caught at Lake Powell. He also enjoyed hunting and often talked about how great it was to hunt the LaSal mountain range. It's difficult to sum-up 84 years; so those of you that knew him can write your own memories. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, sisters: Gay and Beth, brothers: Ernie and Bobby. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sons, and his brother Murray. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 27, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at the Price LDS Stake Center (150 South 500 East). A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and also Friday from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Price City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Friends and family may sign the guest book and share memories of Lawrence at www.fausettmortuary.com. The family wishes to thank the Price 1st Ward Relief Society for their compassionate service.
