Kay Jeffs

September 21, 1942 — December 8, 2024

Kay Barney Jeffs, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, at the San Rafael Care Center in Ferron, Utah. Born on September 21, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, married her Eternal Companion Jerry A Jeffs on January 9, 1960, in Clawson, Utah. They were sealed together for Eternity on October 23, 1976, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Kay lived a life full of faith, service, and dedication to her family and community.

Kay was the daughter of Clara Cox Barney and Orsen Clen Barney. She had a firm testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ, which she exemplified through her many church callings. Her roles included Cub Scout leader, Relief Society president, Primary president, Young Women's president, Compassionate Service leader, music coordinator, Gospel Doctrine teacher, and faithful visiting teacher/ministering sister. She particularly enjoyed her role as music coordinator, humorously noting that although she loved music, she wasn't the most musical person and could "make others go out of tune with her singing." Although Kay did not care for her role as a Gospel Doctrine instructor, she gained a greater knowledge and testimony of Jesus Christ from it.

Kay and her beloved husband, Jerry, shared a deep spiritual bond, beginning each day with scripture study. Their love was a testament to their strong partnership, and together they served a mission in the Washington Tacoma Mission, particularly at Zion's Camp.

Beyond her church service, Kay was a dedicated worker and a loving homemaker. She worked for many years as a librarian in Emery County, where she fostered a profound love for reading. Additionally, she served as a cook and secretary at Emery County High School and a cook at a hospital in Alaska, where she and Jerry lived while working as commercial fishermen. The couple also owned and operated several businesses in Arizona and Utah, where Kay served as the bookkeeper.

Known for her culinary skills, Kay was renowned for her generosity in feeding others. She loved to add her own tweaks to recipes, making each dish uniquely hers. Her hospitality was such that anyone leaving her home hungry had only themselves to blame. She often asked, "Is there anything I have that you need?" as guests departed, embodying her spirit of giving.

Kay's home was always immaculate, and she took great pride in making breakfast and dinner for her family, even while working tirelessly. She loved her daily walks and maintained many wonderful friendships throughout her life. As a mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, she lived as a shining example of love and dedication to her family, often expressing her relief that she didn't have to raise girls. Her family was always her priority, and she cherished her role as a mother and grandmother.

Kay also had a passion for keeping a journal, recording the moments and experiences that shaped her life and the lives of her loved ones.

For the past two years, Kay had been eagerly waiting for Jerry to "bring her home."

She is survived by her sons, Jarold (Gay Lee) Jeffs of Vernal, Utah, Matthew (Christine) Jeffs of Show Low, Arizona, and Adam (Janelle) Jeffs of Castle Dale, Utah. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Brother Phillip (Pauline) Jensen of Ferron Utah, Brother-in-law - Tracy (Sandra) Jeffs Castle Dale Utah, Sisters- in-law - Soni Barney Orangeville Utah, Katherine (Mike) Monfredi Castle Dale Utah.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Jeffs; parents, Clara Cox Barney and Orsen Clen Barney; stepfather, Joseph Jensen; sons, Mark and James Jeffs; grandson, Skylure Jeffs; granddaughter, Jennifer Jeffs Prough; sister, Carol Ward; and brothers, Robert Barney and Chris Jensen.
