Mary Kathryn Fletcher Ward returned to Heavenly Father, and the loving arms of her husband, on June 21, 2020. She was surrounded by family and friends who love her. Kath was born September 13, 1932 to Emmett and Lola Fletcher. Kath was a natural mother, she found joy in taking care of those she loved. As early as 10 years old, she was often left to care for her younger siblings, including a set of twins, for weeks at a time. At the ripe old age of 15, Kath married her sweetheart, Jim Ward, on October 11, 1947. In their 60 years together, they had 7 children, 23 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Kath and Jim worked in the Manti temple for several years. They later served an LDS mission in Charleston, West Virginia. Kath was a favorite in the institute building for many reasons, but mostly because of her homemade baked goods.
Kath was a caretaker at heart. Her family all wanted to be at her house when they were sick. As kids became parents, and parents became grandparents, Kath was often called in a panic with a sick baby in arms. Kath always came to the rescue with an old wives' tale remedy that worked every time, Kath was extraordinary! Even though her circumstances were far from perfect, she was positive and resilient to the end. Her focus was on her family, and her love and devotion for them never wavered.
Her family will miss her deeply but is excited for Kath to be with Jim again after 13 years apart. He's been waiting to give her a shot of extra sugary lemonade that's "good and cold." Kath is survived by her children, Trudi (Boyd) Griffin, Sandee Ward, Tracee Goff, and Kohn (Hal Vaughn) Ward, son- in- law Parke Killpack, and daughter- in- law Susan Ward. Kath is preceded in death by her husband Jim Ward, daughters Toni and Kathy, son Jimmy, grandson Brody, and granddaughter Destinee.
A Graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020 at 10:30 AM, at the Cleveland Cemetery. Live-streaming can be viewed at Heritage Funeral Home, Huntington, Utah Facebook page.
