Joyce Odean Box Allen

January 28, 1932- March 1, 2025

Joyce Odean Box Allen peacefully passed on March 1, 2025, a beautiful sunny morning in Price, Utah, at the age of 93.

She was born 28 January 1932 in Brigham City, Utah to Varian Arnold and Irma Christiansen Box.

She married her sweetheart Orvel Keith Allen on 14 September 1949, in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity.

Joyce grew up in Brigham City and Salt Lake City, she graduated from West High School and married the love of her life in 1949. Her and Orvel lived in Moore, Utah, then moved to Grantsville Utah. When Grandad Allen needed help with the dairy farm they moved back to Moore to help out and eventually bought the farm when Grandad was forced to retire because of health reasons. They farmed together hand in hand for nearly 45 years. They sold the farm to the Castle Valley Ranch and moved to Emery in 2001. Where they enjoyed the last years of their life together.

Joyce was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many church callings throughout her life.

She was actively involved in 4-H as a Leader and a judge. She traveled all through the State for many years judging many 4-H projects and county fairs. She was also involved for many years along with Dad as committee/board members of the Southeastern Utah Junior Livestock Show in Ferron, Utah

She was an avid seamstress and was very particular in making articles of clothing that were perfect! Orvel loved the western apparel she made for him.

She loved to make quilts for herself and the people she loved. Joyce wanted to take her machine and a tub of fabric to the care center with her, so she could sew one final quilt.

A couple of her joys in life were reading and watching her Utah Jazz games every week.

She loved to bake bread and did so for many years and made the best divinity and butter brickle EVER during the holidays!

She washed clothes with a ringer washer and tub, clothes were then hung to dry on the clothesline outside. Sometimes they would freeze before they were dry… but boy-oh-boy did they smell fresh and clean. She didn't have a washer and dryer until they moved to Emery but she still hung clothes on the clothesline for years.

Joyce and Orvel loved to be together. Joyce would ride on the tractor for hours with him. They lived in the spur of the moment and would take off for a day trip whether on the mountain or in the desert. They loved to go fishing, at least Orvel did, while he fished, she read.

Together they lived a good life of joys, sorrows, hard work, and dedication and love for each other.

Joyce is survived by daughter Dixie and Dennis Davies, son Varian and Denise Allen. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, sisters JoAnn Behling of Ferron and Mary Jenkins of Mulino Oregon and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, her eternal companion Orvel Keith Allen and sister Connie Box.

The family would like to give a special thank you to staff at Symbii Hospice, Dr. Cameron Williams, Christine Jensen and especially Casey Hinkins for her love and the dedication shown to Mom during the last few months of her life Mom loved and appreciated her and looked forward to her visits.

We would like to give a very special thank you to Mandie Bennett for her love, care and dedication to helping mom on her visits. Mandie was her General and Mom usually did what she was told and loved Mandie with all her heart!

We need to give Dixy Machuca and her staff at Good Life Senior Living, a very heartfelt thank you. Although Mom’s stay was short, they went above and beyond in providing care to Mom and to us in that short time we were there, there is none better!
