Biography
Joseph Rex Powell
PRICE-The earthly mission of our son, brother, family member and friend, Joseph Rex Powell concluded in early hours of April 21, 2013. Joe had special loved ones from the other side of the veil show up to take him to his loving Heavenly Father. These special visitors came calling him by those special names they knew him by in his youth, "Jody" and "Little Joe the Wrangler".
Joe was born in Price, Utah on September 25, 1947, being the first child born to loving parents Rex Taylor and Rayona Theo Jewkes Powell.
Joe loved life and had endured much to include that accident on the evening of March 9, 2013 that left him paralyzed. Joe fought valiantly and with great courage and effort to regain the good health that he had previously been blessed with.
As Joe grew up he was taught the virtue of hard work and living off the land and how to enjoy the fruits of his labor. His greatest passion in life was Gardening. Joe raised the best produce on earth. Joe was a very hard worker and gained great satisfaction in raising vegetables plants from seeds. He loved to watch the seeds go from a seed in the ground or peat cup to a healthy seedling and eventually to a beautiful strong plant that yielded abundantly. Joe ran and operated a produce sales stand for many years in Price, Joe had a special love for Green River Melons. His homegrown Garlic and Tomatoes were "world class".
Joe was taught and loved the Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ. At a young age he made up his mind to serve the Lord. He worked very hard and saved the money he earned so he could serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to which Joe was an active and faithful member. He served a two-year mission to the Philippines from 1971 to 1973. He converted and met many wonderful people while on his mission. Teaching the Gospel to others was one of Joe's passions. Joe's faith and testimony of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will live forever as an example to his family and to all those who knew him.
Joe had many friends and associates that were special to him. Joe was an inspiration to many and he will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Joe had a special sense of humor and laugh that he was well known for and that helped to identify the special person that he was.
We will miss you Joe, and we look forward to seeing and being with you again. We take this opportunity to say "Thank You" for all the good that you did for each one of us. May your "Heavenly Garden" be beautiful, and the work needed to keep it that way be light-Happy harvesting. May our Heavenly Father watch over you Eternally. We love you! Keep scattering sunshine all along your way as your wonderful smile did each and every day.
Joe is survived by his loving mother, Rayona, a sister Marian Danette (Ray) Hunt, brothers: Daniel Lee (MariLee) Powell, Tyrone Taylor (Joyce) Powell, Gerald Bradford Powell, and Mark Ammon (Julie) Powell, in addition numerous nieces and nephews and many special cousins, and special uncle Reuben LaDell (Pearl) Jewkes and an aunt that was special to him Mona Lee Grundvig.
He is preceded by his loving father Rex Taylor Powell, and wonderful grandparents, Abraham and Ruby Pearl Powell and Rheuben S. and Ida T. Jewkes. His Powell grandparents called him "Little Joe the Wrangler" and his Jewkes grandparents called him "Jody" and they all loved him dearly as we all did.
