John Bryant

PRICE - John Robert Bryant, 72, passed away at his home in Price, Utah on Saturday, February 11, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 6, 1950 in Van Nuys, California to parents John Thomas Bryant and Janice Hathaway Haislip, the youngest of four children. He was sealed in marriage to Sara Lu Scorup on June 3, 1972 in the Provo, Utah Temple. They have six children, 20 grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. After a long hospital stay with polio at age 5, he fully recovered and became an avid musician and soccer player while growing up in the greater Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay areas. He played guitar and sang in rock bands & fiddling group from his teens through his adult years, and taught guitar for six decades. John was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age 19 and remained a faithful follower of Jesus Christ throughout his life, serving in a variety of scout and young men callings, bishop's counselor, high priest group leader, high councilor, and most recently as a CTR7 Primary teacher. He served in the U.S. Army in medical lab assignments from 1972-76, including 21 months in Okinawa, Japan. John graduated from Brigham Young University in 1977 with a degree in Medical Technology, then moved his young family to Price, Utah to work as a Medical Technologist (in the lab) at Carbon County Hospital (now Castleview Hospital) until his retirement in 2013. He enjoyed hosting foreign exchange students in his home for many years and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with family, cooking large breakfasts and BBQ for them, and watching movies together. John was preceded in death by his parents, John & Janice Bryant, and sister, Loni Feldman (husband Jack). He is survived by his brother, Dale, and his sister, Carol Fritsch (husband Reinhard). Also survived by his wife, Sara Scorup, and their children Jennifer May (husband Lorin; children Daren, Camille, Rebekah, Samuel); Shawn Bryant (wife Jennifer Crittenden; children and stepchildren Jared, James, Jacob, Daegen, Kaitlyn Rasmussen, Hunter Rasmussen); Teresa Duncan (husband Jeremy; children Michelle Neilsen, William, Elizabeth, Aaron, John ); Michael Bryant (wife Selinda Crane; children Dallin, Abigail, Logan, Evelyn McKenzie); Justin Bryant (wife Andrea Medrano; daughter Kyriana); and David Bryant. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Price North Stake Center at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held from 9:30 -10:30 am. Interment will follow at the Cliffview Cemetery with military honors. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary of Price.
