Joan Behling

Ferron - Joan Behling Smith, age 68, passed away while surrounded by her children on May 8, 2020 in her home in Ferron following a brief but aggressive attack from cancer. She was born July 10, 1951 in Price to Clyde and Grace Behling. Joan was raised in Ferron, Utah. She attended Emery High School and Snow College then graduated from Utah State University in Secondary Education. She taught Home Economics and Girls P.E. for 2-1/2 years at North Emery Junior High in Huntington. She married Mark McMullin on August 10, 1974 in Ferron and they raised their family in Cleveland, Utah until they divorced in 1997. She stepped away from teaching in 1976 to raise her boys then returned to work and school and obtained her Elementary Education Certificate in June 1989. She taught at San Rafael Junior High then Ferron Elementary and retired from teaching in 2017. Joan touched countless lives with her friendly smile to all she came in contact with including her time teaching in the classroom and her time serving in the Boy Scouts and Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was kind to all and loved many things but had a special place in her heart for her boys, her grandchildren, her Daddy, a sweatshirt with the sleeves pushed up, and a pen that would write just right. She is survived by her children: Matthew (Tara) McMullin, St. Charles, ID, Garrett (Tamarie) McMullin, Lehi, UT, and Brady McMullin, Payson, UT; grandchildren: Jaycee (Kelly) Nobles, Britnee McMullin, Cody McMullin, Brynn McMullin, Kimber Jo McMullin, Blake McMullin, and Kadie McMullin; siblings: Connie (Larry) Anderson, Becky (Kurt) Larsen, and John (Sandra) Behling; sister-in-law Lisa Behling, and her friend Kelly DeLeeuw. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Loran Behling. Due to COVID-19, a graveside service for immediate family only will be held Wednesday May 13, 2020 at the Ferron Cemetery. Please join us for live-streaming of the service at 12 noon on Facebook on the Fausett Mortuary Facebook page. Viewing will be Tuesday May 12, 2020 at the Fausett Mortuary 720 North Center St., Castle Dale, UT from 6 pm to 8 pm. Interment will be in the Ferron City Cemetery.
