Janet Jenkins Petersen, age 87 passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024 in St. George, Utah.
She was born to Andrew David Jenkins and Bessie Leigh Boulden on October 22, 1936, in Castle Dale, Utah.
Janet was the third of five children, La Gene, Laura, Janet, Mary Lee, and Vern.
Janet grew up in Hiawatha, Utah, where her father worked as a miner. She and her siblings loved playing and making up adventures in the hills around their town. Her father died tragically when she was just twelve years old, followed closely by her beloved Sister Laura, two months later. Following these life-changing tragedies, they moved to Castle Dale where Janet finished her education at Emery High School. She took many jobs trying to help her mother support her struggling family. Janet was a social butterfly and had many friends. She had a wonderful personality and everyone loved to be near her and went to her for advice. She met the love of her life, Kent Petersen during high school, and was finally swept off her feet at a High School dance while Kent was on leave from the Army. Unable to wait any longer, they eloped to Ely Nevada on Dec 27th, 1954. She had an unwavering work ethic, helping to put Kent through college. If Janet didn’t know how to do something she would take classes and study until it was mastered. They lived in the Bountiful area in their early years together, where they raised their children, Jill, Jeff, Kara and Chris. Janet would often fondly recount the many wonderful years spent there with her family. After Kent retired from the Hill Air Force base they moved their family to Ferron, Utah where they remained for many years.

Janet kept busy working at the courthouse and local museum where her contributions have left a lasting impression on the community. She loved line-dancing, clogging and singing songs with her many grand and great grandchildren. Janet loved adventures, spending many summers in the San Rafael and traveling abroad with her husband scuba diving, sailing, and seeing the world. Her greatest joy though, was sitting on the deck her son Jeff built on their farm, watching her family grow. Many years were spent on the farm, collecting countless precious memories with her beloved family. After her health declined in the latter years of her life, she moved to St. George to be closer to her daughters and their families, spending hours with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom considered her to be the Queen. Her family truly brought her the most joy in this life. To know her was to love her.

She is survived by her children, Jill Sevy (Jim), Jeff Petersen (Andrea), Kara Perry (Steve), Chris Petersen; eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Janet was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Kent; and adoring grandson, Alec.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Retreat at Sunbrook for all the love and care shown to Kent and Janet.
