Janet Keele
February 4, 1948 – October 15, 2024
Janet Lee Dimick Keele, age 76, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
She was born February 4, 1948, at the Price Hospital to Lewis Aaron and Betty Taylor Dimick.
She was the first Dimick grandchild to be born. Janet was the oldest of six children. Her younger siblings include, Kathryn Logaman (deceased), Daniel Lewis Dimick (deceased), Elaine Nola (Bill) Bowman, David Wayne (Linda) Dimick, and Donnald Kaye (Janet) Dimick.
Janet graduated from Carbon High School in 1966 and married Gordon Lareed Keele on October 16, 1966. They moved to Ely, Nevada. Janet soon became homesick for her beloved Utah and after seven months in Ely they moved to Green River, Utah to work at the Missile Base. Gordon worked as a security guard and Janet worked in procurement for 2 years. She quit her job to be a stay-at-home mom for the next three decades to raise their 5 children. She says that this was “the best season of her life and never regretted it.” After the kids were raised, Janet obtained employment in the 1990’s with the City of Green River for eight years in the administrative office. Janet served on the Green River City Council during this time. Janet truly enjoyed getting to know her colleagues and working with them. During this time Janet also took on the task of managing the small trailer court located on Long Street which she ended up doing for a number of years.
In the mid 2000’s Janet switched gears and obtained employment for Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments as the Director of the Green River Senior Center senior meal services. She talked her husband, Gordon, into driving the food delivery truck to deliver meals to the homebound seniors. Janet later on took on an additional job with Pro Rehab working as a physical therapy assistant. Janet found great enjoyment and satisfaction from the service work she gave to the residents of Green River in both of these service roles.
Janet was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in multiple roles throughout her life. Janet was an accomplished seamstress, in which she made most of the clothes for her children in their younger elementary years. She also made numerous quilts for her family. She also did a lot of baking for her young family. Janet was known for annually planting and tending a flourishing garden in which she encouraged her family to create and maintain a food storage. Most of the food that the family ate came from the garden. She was a meticulous housekeeper. Janet taught her family that there was a “home” for everything and required them to keep things picked up to keep their small home tidy and clutter-free.
When asked for Janet’s words of wisdom she stated, “Take it for what it is. Enjoy the little things as they become the bigger things as time goes by. Know that. Enjoy each moment, enjoy each day, enjoy each week. You won’t regret it.”
Some of Janet’s passions in life include camping, riding four wheelers and going boating with her family. She could often be found with a book in her lap reading as she always had a desire to learn. Janet wrote and edited a few books in her life. She loved to go and travel and never turned down the opportunity to go explore new or familiar places. She loved to go for afternoon walks in the sunshine as she marveled at the blue sky. Most of all, Janet loved her family and devoted her life to being a stay-at-home wife and mother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
