Ina LaRue Lofley
ELMO – Ina LaRue Lofley, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Elmo, Utah, on Monday 18 December, 2023. She was born in Elmo to Einar Deloss Erickson and Ina Shaw on November 14, 1932. She married John Charles Lofley Jr. on 5 January 1950 in Elmo. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Utah Temple.
Her testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ was a very important part of her life. She was constantly reading and studying the scriptures, watching church videos, even the “Sounds of Sunday” in Spanish, when she could not get it in English.
She held numerous callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also gave of her time teaching 4-H, judging county fairs, and sharing her hair cutting /perming skills with all those around her. She was a beautiful seamstress and made and altered wedding dresses for many. She quilted, crocheted, and sewed doll clothes, just to mention a few of her many talents. She was also a life-long member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
LaRue was a very caring, generous, loving, and kind person. She would rather bite her tongue in half than say something negative about anyone. She was an amazing example to all of those who knew her. She opened her home to all with unconditional love and devotion. Her definition of love was “Love is a strong feeling of caring for someone more than for yourself. It is a feeling of happiness and being content.” Her family was more important to her than anything else in the world. Her life was dedicated to the service of her family and others.
LaRue had an amazing memory for birthdays and important dates in others’ lives. Each of her children, their spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren, received a birthday card yearly. If you were a member of her family, in any capacity, you received a loving card from her. She also spent countless hours making memory scrapbooks for all her children.
LaRue is preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Blair Erickson; sister, Janet Kay Mortensen.
She is survived by her sons, John Jerel Lofley (Mary), Blane Deloss Lofley (Theresa) and Keith Lofley (Vondakay); daughters, Sharlene Cook (Neil) and Lanore Cunningham (David); her sister, Deloras Davis; she was the proud matriarch of 19 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and 7 great great-great grandchildren. She also claims the exchange students that graced her life as grandchildren.
