Henry Joe Chavez, resident of Helper, Utah passed away at his home on Dec. 2, 2016. He was born March 20, 1928 in Rifle, CO to Mike & Flora Robal Chavez. He was one of 9 children. He was raised in Rifle and there married his life long sweetheart Louise Margaret Gomez on Aug. 17, 1948.
Henry was a hard worker and retired after 47 years with the Denver Rio Grand Railroad. He loved coaching baseball until he was 78 years old and coached several All-Star teams. He was talented at working with wood from whittling to wishing wells which dotted the yards of neighbors and friends. Henry enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys and other family members.
Henry served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Louise and Henry were married for over 68 years and his love for her was strong all their lives together. When Louise passed away on Oct. 19, 2016 it broke his heart. Henry didn't want to live life without her and God kindly brought him home to be with her.
He is survived by is sons Dale Chavez and Dave Chavez, 3 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, a sister Carmela Crespin. He was preceded in death by his wife Louise, his parents, 7 siblings and 1 granddaughter.
Graveside services will be held Friday, Dec. 9, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Mt View Cemetery in Helper, UT. Interment will follow. Services are entrusted to Fausett Mortuary. Friends and family may visit the online guest book and share a memory of Henry at www.fausettmortuary.com
