WELLINGTON - Harold Merle Besmehn was born in Echo, Minnesota on August 21, 1920 to Martin Max and Esther Greenly Besmehn. He passed away on October 10, 2016 at the age of 96 in his home.
Harold served in the military during World Was II as an airplane mechanic and when his tour of duty was over, he came home to the farm in central MN and settled in, helping his Mom and Dad with their dairy farm. He eventually bought their farm and continued farming until the mid 70's. He married and fathered 8 children during this time. The marriage and farming ended together, signaling a time to move on. He followed his family to Salt Lake City, UT. It's hard to talk about Harold without mentioning Marie. They met while working at the high school in Copperton, UT and eventually developed a relationship. They lived a happy life in Copperton, and then moved to Wellington after they both retired from their jobs at the school. They loved going to yard sales, fishing, traveling and the kids, both his and hers. Harold loved gardening and tinkering, fixing broken tools and cars. Marie could be found in her chair, most days, happily crocheting her blankets. It was their life, and they lived it well!
He is survived by former wife Jane Besmehn, children: Liz Spencer, Tammy Besmehn, Jean Besmehn, Bonnie Besmehn, Mike Besmehn, Teri Besmehn, Bob Besmehn, and Bill Besmehn, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and sister Marion Leonard. Preceded in death by his companion Marie Sandbeck, parents, brother Dick Besmehn, and sister Louella Palecek.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 21, 2016 at Wellington 1st Ward Chapel at 11:00 AM. Family and friends may sign the guestbook and share memories of Harold at www.fausettmortuary.com.
