Georgia Alice David Slane
Georgia Alice David Slane crossed over to the other side of the veil to meet her Lord and Savior on August 18, 2009, in Grace, Idaho at the age of 97.
She was born on May 30, 1912, in a small farm area called Missouri Flats near Thermopolis, WY, on her father's homestead. She was the third child of four born to George William David and Blanche Alice (Mann) David. She attended the little Middleton Country School until completing her last two years at Hot Springs County High School in Thermopolis, WY.
On September 15, 1929, she was united in marriage to Vernon D Slane in Thermopolis, WY.
To that union, five children were born, Walter D, Vernon William, Jeanette Alice, John Chandler, and Bertie Bea. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple.
From 1912 until the 1960's she resided in Thermopolis, WY, except for about a year her family lived in Oklahoma. In about 1960, she moved to California and spent several years there before moving to various places in Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, and Washington. In 1996 until her death she resided in Wellington, UT, before spending her last two weeks at her son's home in Grace, ID.
She was very dedicated to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding various offices including Relief Society president and Sunday school teacher for many years. For several years she also taught seminary.
Georgia was very active in the VFW auxiliary and War Mother auxiliary including past president of both chapters. In her younger years she loved to sew and knit, visit and play games with family and friends, camping and fishing, and in recent years her time was taken up by family history and reading.
Along with her older sister, Beatrice Slane of Cody, WY, she is survived by three sons: Walter D (Alma) Slane of Riverton, WY, Vernon Wm "Bill" (Virginia) Slane of Wellington, UT, and John C. (Kay) Slane of Grace, ID. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, and several step-grand and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Jeanette Alice and Bertie Bea; 2 brothers, Walter and Jack David, 1 grandson and 1 great-grandson.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wellington Utah Stake Center (935 East Main Street - Wellington, UT.) A viewing will be held Friday, August 21, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary, (680 East 100 South - Price, UT) and on Saturday from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. prior to the funeral services at the Stake Center.
