Elma Harris

March 10, 1922 — August 4, 2015

PRICE - Elma Ileen John Harris passed away on August 4, 2015 at her home in Price, after her second battle with cancer. She was born in Kline, Colorado March 10, 1922 to Oliver Williams John and Maude Letha Bell John, the 8th of 9 children. She will be buried on the same property where she was born in Kline. Ileen married Wayne Hubert Harris on June 24, 1939 at Farmington, NM. Together they had 9 children. Ileen as most people knew her by, was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. She served a mission with her husband Wayne in the St George Temple. She loved to play the piano and would play for anyone anytime, and was good at Jazzing up the hymns. Because of her rural home she was unable to finish her high school education until she enrolled her last child into Head Start. At which time she went back to school and at the age of 56 she received her Bachelor Degree in Early Child Development, after which she and her husband had a Head Start Center in their home. She taught Head Start for 17 years; the last 7 was in their home. She served faithfully in many, many church callings throughout her life but the one thing that she loved dearly was all the time she spent in the extraction/indexing program. She did many by hand before starting on the computer, but on the computer since Feb. 2007 she had indexed 159,505 names. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 8 siblings, 4 grandchildren, and 3 sons-in-law. Ileen is survived by all nine of her children: Oliver (Barbara) Harris, Blanding, UT; Elma (Ivin) Palmer, Flora Vista, NM; Ruth (Lloyd ) Thayn, La Sal, UT; Linda ( the late Ron) Kennedy, Price, UT; Bonnie Crum, Price, UT; Jo Ellen (Clay) Atwood, Price, UT; Chad (Sandy) Harris, Monticello UT; Nivana (Jeff) Hocker, Red Mesa, CO; and Orlin (friend Janet) Harris of Naturita, CO., and many grandchildren, and great grandchildren and a few great, great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, August 10, 2015 at 10:00 AM with a viewing 1 hour prior, at the Latter Day Saint Church on 300 W 500 S Price, UT. A graveside service will be held at 6:00 PM at Kline Colorado Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
