Duane "Pete" Jones
Elmo Utah: A. Duane "Pete" Jones age 92 died December 3rd, 2022, in Elmo Utah. He was born in Sugarhouse in Salt Lake City on May 24, 1930 to Parley Helaman Derby Jones and Venola Hansen. He Married Erma Lou McMullin in Cleveland Utah on June 4, 1949.
Duane was raised in Elmo and attended school until ninth grade, later getting his GED, as he was in a hurry to start working. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints holding many callings and enjoying his time as he did so. He was mayor of Elmo City for a number of years. He worked as a general contractor with his father, managed the Tri-State Lumber yard in Price Utah, and was a coal miner later in his career. Dad had a great love of his hometown and never left it. He loved the local desert, particularly so that he could find "pretty" rocks for his collection. He also loved the local canyons and particularly enjoyed camping. He could build anything from wood and was a wonderful mason (among many other talents). He was kind to everyone. He especially loved small children, his grandkids and great grandkids being precious to him. He had a kindness for animals and particularly loved dogs. He was a wonderful example of husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather etc. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Erma: His children are Dennis (Deborah) Jones of Elmo, Utah, Sherrie (Mark) Chapman of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Curtis Jones of Huntington, Utah, Stacey (Derri) Jewkes of Ferron, Utah, and Kim (LaDawn) Jones of Orem, Utah. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
