Dorothy Young

February 3, 1929 — March 14, 2016

Dorothy Layman Lloyd Young Dorothy Layman Lloyd Young, age 87 - Born February 3, 1929 in Ogden, Utah. Died March 14, 2016. She was the first daughter of Clarence Layman and Goldie Deem. She had 2 sisters, Carol and Donna and 2 Brothers, Floyd and Jack. Her father and mother, brother Floyd and sister Donna preceded her in death. As a young child Dorothy lived on a farm in Harrisville, Utah. The family moved to Ogden when she was 9 years old. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1947. She loved to dance and sing, she was a member of the "Glee Club" in high school. During WWII she visited the "Interment Camp" near Topaz and she often spoke of that experience. She married Johnny Lloyd and together they had 6 children; Linda, Allen, Gerald, Janet, Patsy, and MaryAnn. After Johnny Lloyd died; Dorothy married Lawrence Young. The family grew by 11 children; Ronnie, Larry, Mari Anne, Kenny, Hazel, Jimmy, Ernie, Bobby, Liz, Alan, and Robin. 17 children in all. We quit counting the Grandchildren and the Great-Grandchildren. We had some big family reunions. Sadly, Alan and Bobby are deceased. Lawrence Young died in 2012. Her son Allen Lloyd died in January 2016. Dorothy graduated from the CEU Nursing program in 1969 and worked at the Carbon County Nursing Home for over 15 years. She loved nursing and helping others. She was an accomplished "quilter" and did do some embroidery. At last count Dorothy had made over 100 quilts. She learned to enjoy fishing and she and Lawrence spent a lot of time at Miller's Flat and Mammoth Lake. A lifelong member of the LDS Church, Dorothy served in Primary as a teacher and a chorister, and in Cub Scouts as a Den Mother... she often said this was her favorite calling. She and Lawrence also served at the Parkdale Care Center. We hope everyone remembers her as being beautiful, vibrant and lively and enjoying family parties, and picnics. She loved her children and stepchildren and all of the grandchildren. Dorothy had great memories of her 80th birthday party... it was the last time the whole family was together. The family would like to thank Dr. Glen Etzel for taking care of mom. Also, a special thank you to Linda Lloyd for caring for mom the last 4 years. Funeral services will be Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Price 1st Ward LDS Church, 150 South 500 East, Price, Utah. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Fausett Mortuary, 680 East 100 South, Price, Utah and one hour prior to services at church. Interment will be in the Price City Cemetery. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook and share memories of Dorothy at www.fausettmortuary.com
