Dorothy June Oliver Johnson
Price, Utah. Dorothy June Oliver Johnson passed away October 20, 2014 at the age of 79. She was born in Price, Utah, June 17, 1935 to Gervell Francis Oliver and Beulah Esther Smith Oliver. She married Gary Michael Johnson, Sept 12, 1957 in Elko, Nevada. After being married for nine years and looking through a box of pictures, they discovered that they attended grade school together. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1974. Together Gary and Dorothy have four children: Cristy, Stacey, Christian and Lezlie.
In 1958, they moved from Price to Layton. Then, lived in Cedar City and Salt Lake City. Dorothy was an active volunteer and served in the Parent Teachers Association in the Salt Lake City School District. She served as PTA President at Rose Park Elementary School. She taught Primary and was the Den Leader with her son's Cub Scout Troop. Nineteen years later they moved back to Price.
Dorothy joined the work force in 1978 and was employed by the Price Care Center. She went on to work for the State of Utah with the Domestic Violence Program for 15 years. She became the Director of the Colleen Quigley Center for Domestic Violence in 1985 and retired in 1996. She was dedicated to helping abused victims and children of domestic violence and dearly loved her job and those she worked with.
Mom loved the outdoors, camping and fly fishing up Huntington Canyon with family and friends. She took great joy in spending time with her family at their cabin in Scofield, fishing the reservoir and streams in the area. She loved life, she loved to laugh and above all she loved and cared deeply for her husband and family. Nana's greatest joy was cooking and getting together with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All of the grand kids have special memories of Nana at home or the cabin. She had a special gift of knowing just what you needed. She took care of everyone and we all loved spending time visiting with her. She was the best listener.
She enjoyed decorating and caring for her home. She loved her home and she loved being home, sitting outdoors, reading a few hours each day, cheering on the Jazz, watching the Colorado Rockies and loved listening to her music. She spent a good part of her time for many years on her computer, researching and gathering ancestral information for her genealogy and family history. She wrote her personal history in 2001. In 2003, she wrote the history of her mother's lineage. In 2006, she wrote and compiled her father's lineage with the help of her Oliver cousins. She took pride in knowing her ancestors by name. She has left a legacy of her love, in her writings for her posterity to cherish. Together Gary and Dorothy worked on photos. They made videos of special family occasions and repaired vintage family photos. After Dad wrote two novels, his personal history, the Danish lineage of his mother and father and many other articles written for family history books, he gave Mom the inspiration to do the same. Mom always said that Dad, the love of her life, was her inspiration throughout her life.
Her motto was to "Be kinder than necessary, because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of up hill battle".
