Our loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Doris May Austin Mitchell, age 79, passed away on May 25, 2024, after a long and fulfilling life.
She was born on December 23, 1944, in Price Utah, and the only child of Reid & Phyllis Austin. Mom spent a lot of her growing up years in Hiawatha Utah. She attended Hiawatha Elementary, Price Jr. High, and graduated from Carbon High School in 1963.
Mom was the winner of that Nation High School poetry contest, attended American Legion Girls state and a Journalism work-shop at BYU. She was also in the Pep Club and sang in the Messiah and spring music festival. She went on to receive her Associate of Science at Carbon College. Continuing her education at Brigham Young University until 1966, when she enlisted in the United States Army. Mom served in the Medical Corp. during the Vietnam Era. She was stationed at Fort McClellan, Alabama, Fort Sam Houston, Tx then on to Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, where she received an Honorable Discharge in 1968.
While serving in the Army, she met and married the love of her life and sweetheart of 34 years, William Lonnie Mitchell, III on December 15, 1967, in Waynesville Missouri . Together, they had 3 Daughters. Denice, Jackie and Billieann. In 2003 Mom and Dad were sealed in the Manti Temple.
Mom was a member of the American Legion Post 42, Post 3 and American Legion Aux. She had a real appreciation for the simple and little things in life and always said “Don’t sweat the small stuff”
During this life she enjoyed cross stitch, reading the scriptures, fishing, camping, Lagoon and the Zoo. She wrote that “She loved life, being who she was, living where she did and doing what she could. Always thankful for good friends and her Ward.
She leaves behind her 3 girls, Denice L Bradley (Mitchell), Jackie Y Mitchell, and Billieann Christiansen (Mitchell); she is the grandmother of 8 and a great-grandmother to 18.
Preceded in death by husband, William Lonnie; parents, Reid and Phyliis.
