Don R (Rex) Gardner
Price-Don R (Rex) Gardner, age 93, passed calmly in his sleep in Price, Utah on October 6, 2011. He resided at the Heirloom Inn, a retirement residence since April 2010 where he was well taken care of by a lot of beautiful and loving ladies including his dedicated step-daughter Bev who made sure on a daily basis that his every need was handled and who spent endless hours with him, especially this last month making sure he didn't feel alone. Thank you so much for all that love and care.
Don was born to Denzel Rex Gardner and Alice Fern Greenhall on Sept 22, 1919 in Hayden, Utah and was a member of the LDS faith. He joined the U.S. Army on March 8, 1942 and served through November 1945. He married Mary Leavitt in 1948 and had four children. They were later divorced.
A true cowboy his entire life he had a huge love and respect for horses and taught that to his children. He made sure that both Craig and Gayle had their own horses at different times of their lives and taught them that same love, respect and ability to ride. He was very proud of his association with his friends of Alcoholics Anonymous and his sobriety of 25 years.
Survived by his daughter Gayle Ann Gardner-Layton, grandchildren Aubri Layton and Colby Layton, his step-daughter Beverly Liebhardt, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his beautiful son Craig Gardner born in 1950 and died in 1969, his baby girl born and died in 1949 and his baby boy born and died in 1953. Also by his sister, Blye Smith, brother, Keith Gardner and his parents.
