David Thompson
A wonderful person, David Thompson, passed away July 3, 2011. He was born on October 11, 1948. Spent his childhood in Chicago, IL. Went to Mesa State College, Grand Junction, CO. Eventually landed in Salt Lake City, Ut, where he went to work for Union Pacific Railroad. Yeah, he was one of those ol' retired railroad guys.
In 1999, David and his partner, Richard, bought a 30 acre spread of land just north of Green River, UT. In 2006 they moved down there full time.
Dave's last few years were spent golfing, working around the farm, golfing, traveling, and, oh yeah, golfing, He was on the Green River Canal Company Board, and was the treasurer for The Green River Conservation District. He kept his Callaways in the truck and enjoyed going to various land/water managment seminars around the state. I really think that was just an excuse to enjoy a good breakfast buffet and play eighteen holes.
David is survived by his partner of 18 years, Richard, his brothers Bob, Bill, Jim and Doug (who is his twin, BTW), his nephews and nieces. Preceded by his parents.
David will be cremated and his ashes will spread in the San Raphael Swell and onto the Green River. And a few will be sprinkled on that damn spot in the alfalfa where nothing wants to grow.
There will be a celebration for David at the farm, September 17, 2011 during Melon Days in Green River UT. All are welcome! A memorial fund has been set up at Eastern Utah Community Credit Union. All donations will be turned over to a couple of David's favorite charities.
NO TEARS!!!! Dave wouldn't want that. This weekend, hit the ball straight and true, have a beer, and just remember what a truly cool, wonderful guy David was!
