Chris Nielsen

October 17, 1938 — April 29, 2019

Christian Merrill Nielsen passed away on April 29, 2019 after 51 years of diabetes. He is finally free of finger pricks, needles, and insulin pumps. Born October 17, 1938 to Leo and Reo Nielsen in Price, Utah. He was raised in Castle Dale, Utah and at a very young age knew that he wanted to be a cowboy. He always had a rope in his hand. Chris graduated from South Emery High School. He married Sunny Johansen, January 15, 1960. She proceeded him in death on October 11, 2016. He was so ready to be with her. Those years between were spent working, ranching, and roping. Work hard all week to be able to rope all weekend. Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Retired from the Operating Engineers. Member of the United States Team Roping Association Past member of the Eastern Utah Rodeo Association, Rodeo Cowboys Association, winner of a horse trailer, 28 saddles and to many buckles to count. Survived by his children Shane and Laurel Nielsen, Amy and Gary Adams, Hank and Nedra Nielsen all of Castle Dale. Fourteen grandkids and 32 great grandkids and hundreds of adopted ropers. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, and his sister Barbara Reo. Everything he did was in support of his love of roping. He loved a good horse, loved calf roping the best but was a team roper longer. He taught roping to anyone that asked for help. Loved traveling to ropings all over the west. We are sure he is up there getting ready to rope right now. A viewing will be held May 2, 2019 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale, Utah.
