Boyd William Furner
PROVO - Boyd W. Furner, age 92, passed away October 2, 2012 in Provo, Utah. Boyd was born October 6, 1919 in Spring Lake, Utah to George Thomas and Sarah Ruth Taylor Furner. He married Minnie DeJong on September 10, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Minnie passed away December 26, 1961. He then married Beryl Johnstun on April 12, 1964 in Spanish Fork, Utah.
Boyd was raised in both Spring Lake and Salt Lake City. He graduated from South High School and attended BYU. After marrying Minnie, they raised their children in both Washington state and Utah, eventually settling in Spanish Fork. He served his country in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II where he received a Purple Heart. Boyd worked as a grocer, custodian, and for BYU Food Services. He was an active member of the LDS church serving in many capacities including being an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake and Provo Temples. He was a church service missionary with Beryl at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. Boyd will be remembered as an honest, hard worker who left a legacy of service for his family to follow.
He is survived by his wife, Beryl; children: Jan (Nina) Furner of Provo, Diane (Vernon) Pankratz currently serving a mission in the Netherlands, Paul (Bonnie) Furner of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, Teena (Byron) Burke of Forney, Texas, JoLynn (Mikel) Stevens of Orem, and David Furner of Nashville, Tennessee; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Furner and LaDene Furner; 35 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Minnie; daughter, Signe; six brothers: Benjamin, Taylor, George, Grant, Fred, and Ron; and two sisters, Maxine and Ruth.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pioneer Park LDS Ward (610 West 300 South, Provo). There will be a viewing at the church Monday, October 8, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Murray City Cemetery (5490 South Vine Street, Murray). Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
