Barry Norton

Barry Ross Norton, beloved father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, uncle, loyal friend, devoted teacher, and true disciple of Jesus Christ passed from this world onto a joyous reunion in a heavenly home on September 26th, 2019. Born December 27th, 1945 in Price, Utah to Ross and Melene Norton, Barry was raised in Wellington, Utah surrounded by the entire Norton clan. Their influence helped shape and prepare him to spend his life in the service of others. As the oldest child and big brother to three sisters, Barry was their protector, role model, and biggest supporter throughout his life. Barry was always humble and happy, was quick with a joke and also praise for others, and always had a glow in his eyes. Throughout his life Barry answered the call to serve God, country, and family on many occasions. As a young man he answered a call from Heavenly Father and travelled across the ocean to serve in the Scottish Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After returning home he responded to the call to serve his country, serving on a Naval submarine during the Vietnam War. During his service in the Navy, Barry began the greatest chapter of his life by marrying his sweetheart Lynda Dianne Reynolds on November 22nd, 1969 in the Manti, Utah LDS temple. Barry and Lynda were blessed with five loving children, Heather Ann, Tamra Lynn, Stacee Marie, Joshua Michael, and Jared Abram. After an honorable discharge, Barry then attended Weber State University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Sociology, and later also earning a Master's degree from Brigham Young University. After graduation Barry and Lynda together embarked on a journey that would take them all over the country as Barry began a career as a Seminary and Institute teacher for the church. From Arizona to Emery County, Utah, to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and finally back to Eagle Mountain, Utah, Barry taught the gospel of Jesus Christ to countless students from all walks of life. He taught them of hope, charity, duty, compassion, and most of all he taught them of the love of the Savior Jesus Christ. Whether raising their children from their home in Holbrook, Arizona or in Huntington, Utah, Barry was the best father anyone could ask for. He was completely dedicated to his family, serving them every day of his life as their counselor, teacher, friend, and role model. While living in Holbrook, Barry was called to serve as Branch President of the Navajo Branch. After moving back to Utah he served in several more callings including High Counselor, Bishop, and Stake President of the Huntington Stake. After retiring he would serve another mission, this time with his sweetheart Lynda, teaching English in the Payson area. Throughout his life Barry exemplified one of the Navy's unofficial mottos, "Semper Fortis," meaning "Always Courageous." Barry had the courage to serve God, the courage to serve his country, the courage to serve his family, and he had the courage to serve any and all who were in need of his help. Barry is preceded in death by his parents Ross and Melene Norton, daughters Tamra Lynn and Stacee Marie, sister Leslie Dee Woodward, and brother Baby Norton. He is survived by his sweetheart of fifty years Lynda, children Heather (Scott) Stilson, Joshua (Katiene) Norton, Jared (Jasa) Norton, sister Deborah (Russell) Hobbs, Cathy (Jack) Larose, 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by the numberless students whose lives he blessed as teacher and church leader. Funeral services have been entrusted to Fausett Mortuary and will be held Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019 at 11:00am in the Huntington, Utah stake center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Visitations will be held Tuesday, October 1st, from 6:00-8:00pm at Fausett Mortuary in Price, Utah and Wednesday, October 2nd, from 9:30-10:30am at the Huntington stake center immediately prior to services.
